Punjab Polls: Malwinder Singh joins Akali Dal

punjab polls 274x300 Punjab Polls: Malwinder Singh joins Akali DalA strong attack has made over the Punjab polls to Congress as harassment, while Malwinder Singh, younger brother of the party’s state unit chief Captain Amarinder Singh, quit the outfit.

On Saturday after being denied a ticket in favour of Amarinder’s son Raninder, Malvinder, 67, joined archrival Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

In fact, like his brother Amarinder, Malvinder is an Army Captain. Before joining Congress in 1977, he served the forces for 12 years.

However Malwinder has never fought an election. He has taken a decision as like former Punjab finance minister Manpreet Badal who had rebelled against his uncle, Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal and left the party to float his own outfit for one and a half ago.

A source reported that Sukhbir Badal , SAD president represented Malwinder virtually as a trophy for him while he entered into SAD yesterday.

Interestingly his decision to float his own outfit is continuing the blood letting reform in Punjab that affects political climate-sizzle despite cold wave sweeping across the region.

“I am delighted that Malwinder has given SAD such huge strength. This will change the game for Congress and SAD in the 2012 elections,” Sukhbir said.

Calling Malwinder’s move as an “atom bomb blast” that will raze the Congress to the ground, Sukhbir defined that SAD can easily down the Congress.

While talking to Media, Malwinder hit out bitterly at his sister-in-law and Union minister of state for external affairs Preneet Kaur, just before announcing his decision to join SAD, accusing her of pushing for her son Raninder Singh’s candidature.

Considering it as a personal matter, Preneet refused to comment on the family conflict. She said, “Malwinder is a very valued member of the family who had worked very hard for my two elections. This (his revolt) is most unfortunate.”
