TMC’s U turn: Back to UPA candidates

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee who did not yet concur her decision on choice of candidature for Prez Polls, finally announced to back the UPA presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee, on Tuesday evening.

Taking U turn on her decision, Banerjee told reporters, her decision to support Mukherjee was because she didn’t want her party votes to get wasted, and many see it as a move to grab a central package for the state.

This time Congress have to cheer the moment which added by Banerjee who also is likely to support the UPA‘s Vice Presidential candidate Hamid Ansari too.

From last month, there was controversial matter between Banerjee and Congress. Mukherjee has great support from parties except Banerjee who did not spoke or expressed her party choice for president polls.

However just two days ahead, Banerjee’s choice moved the polling, over that she said party had no “option but to support Pranab” whom she had not spoken for almost eight months.

Denied any pressure on her sudden change decision, she told reporters, “It would have been nice if we said this with a smile on our faces. Unfortunately, the situation is not so.” Adding, there had been no “appeal” or “deal”, which had brought about the change in her stand.

Banerjee’s change of decision came after discussion made with Prime Minister on Tuesday. Moreover, APJ Abdul Kalam as the Presidential candidate and Gopal Gandhi as the Vice Presidential candidate, were her first choice, but due to both refusal to contest, she failed to take decision.
