After marking the 10th anniversary of Gujarat communal riots, now this conspiracy has lead to US House resolution urging the state government to restore religious freedom.
Keith Ellison, a Democrat lawmaker early this week has introduced “recognising the 10th anniversary of the tragic communal violence in Gujarat“, the non-binding resolution that sent to the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
The Gujarat government has failed to bring adequately justice for the victims who had died in the 2002 Gujarat violence.
Therefore, the Congressional resolution, sharing the opinion of the US Department of State over Gujarat govt. unpredictable action, commends the US government for denying a visa to of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi in 2005 on the grounds of a religious freedom violation under the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998.
Over a 1,000 people were killed in the carnage of the 2002 violence in Gujarat communal riots.
Appreciating with a warm welcome, Shaheen Khateeb, President of The Indian American Muslim Council, said, “Congressman Ellison’s resolution is an important effort to memorialise all those who were killed in the horrific sectarian violence of Gujarat in 2002.”
