Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is goodwill ambassador of UNAIDS

According to latest news, the United Nations has announced to appoint Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan a goodwill ambassador. The actress will be appointed under a mission to help stop new HIV infections in children and she will highlight the importance to anti-retroviral treatment

It is said in media that the actress will work with UNAIDS, the UN program on HIV/Aids, “Global plan towards the elimination of new HIV infections among children and keeping their mothers alive.”

Talking to media, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan said, “Spreading awareness on health issues, especially related to women and children, has always been a priority for me.”

Rai added, “And now, as a new mother, I can personally relate to this – the joys and concerns of every mother and the hopes that we have for our children.”

Under the program, Aishwarya will promote on 22 nations including India, where the hike in HIV infection among children is more than 90%. Aishwarya Rai won the Miss World title in 1994 and married to actor Abhishek Bachchan.

The actress also worked in Hollywood movies like The Pink Panther 2 and is a regular at the Cannes film festival.
