BJP MLA Amit Shah’s U-turn after claims to contest in Gujarat polls

Former Gujarat minister of state for Home, Amit Shah had a quick U-turn from his statement that he would contest the coming Assembly polls in the state.

Talking to media, Amit Shah said that media has presented his statement in misconstrued manner.

Amit Shah said, “It is for the party (BJP) to decide whether to give me ticket or not.”

Amit Shah is a BJP MLA and very close to the state chief minister Narendra Modi. Though, Amit Shah is an accused in Soharabuddin Sheikh and Tulsi Prajapati fake encounter cases. Mr. Shah is presently out on bail.

In addition, during the first half of the day, Amit Shah has said in a press meet that “I will only be contesting the elections, but I am going to win this time also with comfortable margins.”

He said, “Last time, I had won from Sarkhej Assembly seat with the margin of over 2.50 lakh votes. Now, after the delimitation, it has been divided into three constituencies – Vejalpur, Ghatlodia and Naranpura. I can win from any of these with comfortable margins.”

In September 2012, the Supreme Court permitted Amit Shah to return to Gujarat after rejecting CBI’s application to cancel the bail granted to him in Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case.

Since his return to the state, Amit Shah kept distances from media as well as public functions and keeping a low profile.
