Salman Rushdie, the famous writer, is being used as a political weapon in Uttar Pradesh when the Darul-Uloom Deoband’s demand to ban the entry of Salman in the country.
Rushdie, writer of “The Satanic Verses” book, earned the wrath of Muslims worldwide for his book. The writer is scheduled to presented in the January 20-24 [Jaipur Literature Festival] in Rajasthan’s capital.
But the request for canceling Salman’s visa to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi had attended by Maulana Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani, the Deoband chief. In his statement, he said, “In case of no response from the UPA government, the Darul-Uloom Deoband will take appropriate action.”
“In view of the UP assembly election, the entry could generate reaction. The Jaipur programme should be cancelled,” Rasheed Masood who is the newly-inducted Congress working committee member informed.
Talking to reporters Masood said, Muslims could not forgive Rushdie.
During election time Rushdie’s arrival was not appropriate and if the UPA government gave him visa, it would not be right.
Rushdie’s entry has prohibited by al the party members whether they are from Rashtriya Lok Dal legislature party or Samajwadi Party. Everyone asked UPA govt. to take quick action and stop Rushdie’s entry.
Kaukab Hamid, Rashtriya Lok Dal legislature party leader confirmed, “The writer has hurt the religious feelings of Muslims by making objectionable comments against Prophet Mohammad in his 1998 book.”
However the demand as of Samajwadi Party leader Ahmad Hasan who said while UPA is appeasing anti-Muslim forces across the world, but Rushdie’s entry should be banned, has supported by seminary.
Expressing his opinion over Rushdie’s entry, Abdur Rahim Quereshi , All India Muslim Personal Law Board general secretary and spokesman , from Hyderabad quoted a statement, the Centre’s permission to Rushdie for Jaipur festival was aimed at hurting the sentiments of Muslims.
Meanwhile Rushdie’s entry will seem to be a major issue in the battle of polls. Having aggressive behavior of Muslims for Rushdie to write objectionable comments against Prophet Mohammad in his 1998 book, all the 17% Muslim that electorate in the state, are wants to stop his arrival in Jaipur.
Now it’s all upon UPA govt’s decision over Rashdie’s entry whether to allot him Visa or banned his entry. But leaders of parties took their poll positions and ready to spreading their comments around the public.
