Malda Baby Death Case: 10 more babies die, toll rises at 25

Fresh news state that three more infants were died in the past 24 hours in the Malda Medical College and hospital in West Bengal. It si said in reports that the death toll has reached to 25 since Sunday.

Meanwhile, the state government had ordered the Chairman of Task Force of Infant Mortality to rush Malda. However, the hospital officials told media that three babies were suffering from birth asphyxia and hypothermia.

Further, the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare AH Khan Choudhury said that he and his officials are monitoring the matter deeply. The CMO visited the hospital to take stock of the situation.

Talking to media, hospital official Uchhal Kumar Bhadra said, “Since Monday night, 10 more babies have died. The total such deaths now stand at 25 since Saturday.”

Bhadra said, “The number of critical babies brought here are far more than we can take care. Moreover, the babies are often brought nearly half dead. There is no question of negligence on our part.”

He said, “Often the families crowd the hospital which hampers our services. When asked to vacate, they resort to unruly conduct leading to law and order problem.”
