Polling ‘on’ for fifth phase in Uttar Pradesh

Today, the Assembly election in Uttar Pradesh comes in its fifth phase, covering 49 seats spread over 13 districts including Firozabad, Kanshiram Nagar, Etah, Mainpuri, Etawah, Auraiya, Ramabainagar, Kanpur, Jalaun, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Hamirpur and Mahoba.

Polling for fifth phase began at 7am amidst tight security with installation of 981 video cameras and 2,100 digital cameras for checking any disruptive movement at 17,267 polling stations at 11,745 centres.

As per CEO, 2,104 stations have been identified as sensitive, 2,256 as hyper sensitive.

The tough time of make or break is for SP former chief minister Kalyan Singh that needs to cream maximum votes in the battle of assembly seats in backward Bundelkhand region.

However more than 1.56 crore voters in this phase would decide the fate of 829 candidates, including that of leader of opposition in the state assembly Shivpal Singh Yadav from Jaswantnagar, BJP leader Uma Bharati from Charkhari and former UP chief minister Kalyan Singh.

Beside them, SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav’s relative Urmila Yadav would be contesting from Karhal seat in Mainpuri as a Congress nominee, after being denied ticket by the party.

While former minister and state president of BJP‘s women wing Premlata Katiyar is in the fray from Kalyanpur seat in Kanpur, a minister in BSP government Jaiveer Singh is contesting from Karhal seat.

Interesting thing is that as like other phase, this phase is also covered at least 76 candidate who are facing criminal background and 188 are of crorepatis. Two new districts Kanshiram Nagar and Ramabai Nagar would be held in this time polling.

Now at this time, all eyes are set on SP party candidates ruling on the regional area of state. In the Yadav land, it will be difficult for Mayawati’s BSP to stand, that win higher seats last time.

And if Yadav, SP’s resurgence will win again higher share of seats at this time, then it could be leapfrog with brightening its prospects of forming government.
