President Pranab Mukherjee greets nation on Guru Nanak Jayanti

According to latest news, the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday greeted the nation on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, the birthday of Guru Nanak which will be celebrated on Wednesday.

The President said in his address, “The life and teachings of Guru Nanak are of profound significance to mankind. His message of love, harmony and brotherhood, his universal vision and compassion provide inspiration for all humanity.”

He said, “May each one of us imbibe his ideals and endeavor to apply his noble teachings in our daily lives.”

Guru Nanak Dev ji was the first of the ten Sikh Gurus, and was born on October 20, 1469. The birth place of Guru Nanak is now called as Nankana Sahib, near Lahore, Pakistan.

Guru Nanak’s birthplace is marked by Gurdwara Janam Asthan.

Further, Guru Nanak Dev ji was married to Mata Sulakhni at the age of 16. The couple had two sons, Sri Chand and Lakhmi Chand.
