Suu Kyi to meet PM Manmohan Singh today

As per latest report, Aung San Suu Kyi, the pro-democracy leader of Myanmar who is on land of India in New Delhi, will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday.

On her six day visit, Suu Kyi who will firstly arrive India since 25 years, will address the Nehru Memorial Lecture on the 123rd birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru, first Prime Minister of India.

This visit is a historical moment in Indian economic as since 1987 in Rajiv Gandhi’s visit over 25 years, Mr. Singh is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Myanmar held talks with Mr. Sein aiming a joint strategy to tackle terrorism and insurgency along their border.

Myanmar Elections: Aung San Suu Kyi ‘victory of the people’

It has been reported that Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi who had struggled from 22 last years as spent crucial time by locked under house arrest, had won a seat in Parliament for the first time.

A global icon, Kyi succeed to mark a “victory of the people”, tagged the Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

While she elected to Parliamentary by polls elections on Sunday, supporters of her National League for Democracy (NLD) party declared that her entry will mark a major turning point in a nation still emerging from a ruthless era of military rule.

In Myanmar, Parliamentary by- polls started at 6 a.m. on Sunday morning with contesting in 9 regions or states of 157 candidates out of whom 17 are from political parties and 7 individuals.

Around 6.8 million voters will cast their votes for 45 constituencies, Kawhmu, Thonkwa, Dagon Seikkan, Mingala Taungnyunt, Hlegu and Mayangon are the six constituencies from which seven parties ,six are new, will participate in contest as representatives of House in Yangon region for six vacant seats in it.

Opposition leader, the Nobel peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, will stand for first time in Parliamentary by elections, along with 43 members of her National League for Democracy party for 48 vacant seats.
