Telenor, Tata Teleservices in talks to merge Indian biz

Norway’s largest telecom operator, Telenor is in talks with Tata Teleservices to merge its Indian operations seeking to get its targeted point in the Indian mobile phone market over 900 million customers.

As per close sources with direct knowledge of the matter, Telenor which seeks to take a majority stake in the merged entity would become the top fifth mobile phone company in India, source said.

Telenor, Unitech agrees to settle Uninor JV Telecom Dispute

Over a long domestic as well as international legal dispute and claims on ownership, the Norwegian firm ASA Telenor and Indian major Unitech has reached a settlement over Indian telecommunications joint venture telecom services provider Uninor.

Telenor which has 67.25 per cent stake is exiting the joint venture and will pay Unitech Ltd. a “nominal” amount for assets of Unitech Wireless. Read more
