Voice calls should not be taxed: Sibal

Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal 150x150 Voice calls should not be taxed: SibalIn the bucket of Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal, there are more expected offers for customers as after hitting free roaming calls, the minister suggested that voice calls should be free .

Today, Sibal urged the mobile operators to charge customers just for data services instead of voice model services to generate revenues.

Following the plan for making calls free, Sibal told media in the CII broadband summit, “At the moment, revenue of industry depends on voice, it is time that the industry decides to move in a direction where revenues come from data and not from voice.”

Pushing customers out of tax for voice, the minister forced telecommunication companies to make customer tax free, “talking to each other should not be taxed”.

Around Rs 35,000 crore is investing on various broadband related projects by govt, seeking a Rs 3 lakh crore secondary market, hence there is massive potential in market to make calls free as biggest share is to be earned by companies from voice-based services.

Beside broadband Rs 20,000 crore national plans, Sibal confirmed media that after implementing free roaming from 2013, “By December 2013 (optical) fibre cable will be laid”.
