External Affairs Minister SM Krishna resigns

According to latest political news, the External Affairs Minister SM Krishna resigned just before the reshuffle of the Union Cabinet scheduled on Sunday.

Source said, SM Krishna, 80-year-old, basically from Karnataka, is believed to have sent his resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the afternoon.

It is said in reports, as the Assembly elections are expected to be held in May next year in Karnataka, SM Krishna might get a party assignment in the state.

Further, SM Krishna’s resignation also shows that the Union Council of Ministers is set for a revamp on Sunday and a new face will take his position, may be someone close to Rahul Gandhi.

However, Rahul Gandhi himself might join the government or not is not yet clear but sources said that such speculation might be there.

The former Karnataka Chief Minister, SM Krishana was appointed as External Affairs Minister soon after the elections in 2009 when UPA came into power for the 2nd time.

SM Krishna’s name has been part of the speculation whenever there was speculation about a Cabinet reshuffle.
