Once again the ‘Chris Gayle Factor’ worked for West Indies, and they beats Australia by 74 runs and enters into ICC World Twenty20 finals for the first time.
It was very special moment for West Indies cricket team and fans of it. The Caribbean boys were on fire yesterday and no Australian bowler was able to stop them
Earlier, West Indies captain won the toss and elected to bat first. Opener Chris Gayle played amazing cricket hitting 75 runs from just 41 balls with five fours and six sixes.
Chris Gayle was well supported by Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Marlon Samuels. West Indies made 205 runs in 20-overs.
Australian fast bowler Xavier Doherty was the most expensive bowler; he gave away 25 runs in the 20th over of the match. Pollard played 38 runs from 15 balls with three fours and equal number of sixes.
Batting second, Australian cricket team never looked in control. They lost opener cheaply. None of Australian batsman played good cricket, however, captain George Bailey played some good shorts and made 63 runs from 29 balls with six fours and four huge sixes. But that was not enough.
West Indies bowler Ravi Rampaul took three wickets for 16 runs and Pollard took 2 wickets for 6 runs in his one over.
Now, West Indies will play against Sri Lanka in the finals of ICC World Twenty20 on Sunday.
Australian captain said after match, “Gayle was subdued for a while but while he’s at the crease he’s always in your mind. But we set ourselves to get to the semi-finals and I don’t think there’s one area specifically where we can improve on. But from tonight you can probably say all three!.”
Man-of-the-Match was given to Chris Gayle for his superb knock. He said, “If you look at the quality in the dressing room, if we go out on the field and execute we can beat any team.”
