Italian Ex-PM Berlusconi threatens to topple Monti’s ‘extortionist’ govt

The Ex Prime minister and Media tycoon of Italy, Silvio Berlusconi who has sentenced on Friday to 4 years in jail for tax fraud threatened to grounded down Mario Monti’s technocrats government.

The convicted Berlusconi accused the government of fiscal extortion, saying that the cabinet is leading Italy into a “spiral of recession”. He further added that it is upto his centre-right PDL party decision whether to end its support or not.

Berlusconi is tailor of the largest Parliamentary party- center-right People of Freedom (PDL) and in upcoming polls in 2013 the decision will be in his party hands.

“Together with my collaborators we will decide in the next few days whether it is better to immediately withdraw our confidence in this government or keep it, given the elections that are scheduled,” Berlusconi said while thousands of protesters marched through Rome, as per source.

His triggered move came after a day when he sentenced y court for 4 years in jails after found guilty of tax fraud on charge of purchasing broadcasting right of U.S. movies by his Mediaset empire with wrong declaration of financial position to avoid taxes.

Mr. Berlusconi does not want to be Prime Minister, but expecting to appeal for further two more chances of ruling his party until his jail sentence not upheld. He could also appealed against his four-year-jail sentence asked to reduce to one year.
