Union Finance Minister Pranabh Mukherjee, the UPA led Congress nominee for Presidential Post has announced to be resign on Sunday as Finance Minister, following the participation in the race to enter the Rashtrapati house.
“I will resign on June 24″, Mukerjee told reporters.
Today, Mukherjee will have left for Birbhum district in nostalgia where he has ancestral house before returning to Kolkata in the afternoon.
Before leaving his house, Finance Minister once again has thrown his cards in form of appeal for all parties to give their crucial vote to him.
Seeking support of all parties for his candidature, source said, Mukherjee appealed, “Except for one partner all UPA allies have supported my candidature. Non-UPA partners like Samjawadi Party, BSP, besides other parties like CPI(M), AIFB, JD(U), Shiv Sena have also supported my candidature.”
Those who have not still deicide whether to support his candidature or not, Mukherjee requested to take a decision in “his support as the UPA presidential candidate.”
While talking with media persons, Mukherjee shared his feelings, said, “I am steeped in nostalgia. I was brought up in my village. I am basically a village boy. Whenever I found time, I would go to the village house.”
As per sources, June 28 is the date when Mukherjee is expected to file his nomination papers for the Presidential election and for his candidature, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh along with Sonia Gandhi and several Cabinet ministers are expected to be the proposers and seconders.
However Presidential election is scheduled to be on July 19, still key ally of UPA, the TMC is not yet to decide to take any presidential candidature after A P J Abdul Kalam who has left out the race.
