The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested Senior leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) M M Mani on Wednesday for refusing to go through a polygraph test under a probe of alleged political murders in the Eighties in Idukki in connection with his controversial speech.

As per sources report, SIT has arrested Mr Mani from his house at Kunnhithanni near Idukki under its ‘Operation Ringtone’and took him into the police station at Nedumkandam.

Probing of SIT had followed while four murders of politicians occurred in Idukki were found to have connected to Mr. Mani’s statement that his party had in the 1980s drawn up a list of 13 political rivals to be killed.

The case has registered against Mr. Mani for murder of Anchery Baby, a Youth Congress leader in the district on November 13, 1982 in the light of Mr Mani’s speech, following by the murder of Mullanchira Mathai and Muttukad Nanappan in 1983 and Balu in 2004.

Meanwhile, due to having criminal charges affecting central leadership, CPI(M) had exited Manu from post of CPI-M Idukki district secretary and also from the party in July last year.

However, considered with probing, SIT team had earlier issued a notice to Mani to go through the polygraph test by Wednesday, but he had declined it. Two more CPI(M) leaders are also arrested in connection with Mani’s Speeches.
