Facebook asks employers not to ask for passwords

The most widely used social networking site, Facebook is warning its employers not to demand the passwords of job applications. Facebook said this would be an attack on privacy that opens firms to legal liabilities.

Further, Facebook also warned legal action against such violating acts in its long-standing policy against sharing passwords.

In the meantime, it is said in reports that under some cases of job application during the interview table, do ask for Facebook passwords so that they can check their backgrounds.

Google, FaceBook appeals in India as Govt. orders to remove content

Over the offensive content on social networking sites like Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo, the govt. has sanctioned prosecution of all these after a day when warning made by Delhi high court to the social networking sites to devise a mechanism to check and remove objectionable material from their sites or face blocking like in China.

Today a trial court adjourned till March 13, the hearing in the case of 21 social networking sites allegedly hosting objectionable content.

However the external affairs ministry has directed the summons issued to foreign-based social networking sites. Among 21, 12 websites are of foreign-based companies.

The managing director of Divorce-Online, Mark Keenan, said in his statement, “Facebook has become the primary method for communicating with friends for many people. People contact ex-partners and the messages start as innocent, but lead to trouble.”

“If someone wants to have an affair or flirt with the opposite sex then it’s the easiest place to do it. People need to be careful what they put on Facebook as the courts are now seeing a lot more evidence being introduced from people’s walls and posts in disputes over finances and children,” he added.

Records made by the firm shows that in past year at least 33% of the 5,000 behaviour petitions filed. Facebook was cited as a reason for a third of divorces last year in which unreasonable behaviour was a factor.

On the basis of the Daily Mail report, the firm said it had seen a 50% jump in the number of behaviour-based divorce petitions that contained the word ‘Facebook’ in the past two years.
