Pakistan suspends mobile networks in many cities

News have said that the Pakistani government is suspending mobile phone coverage in many cities after a series of bomb attacks on Shi’ites triggered by mobile phones.

Meanwhile, this weekend is an important one in the Shi’ite Muslim calendar.

Further, Sunnis have warned more of such bomb attacks as the Shi’ite mourning month of Muharram comes to an end. Till now, dozens of people had lost their live in bomb blasts attending Muharram processions.

Talking to media, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said, “All the blasts that occurred in the last 15 days were mobile phone-based.”

On Friday, a suicide bomber killedhimself and left two police officers injured near a Shi’ite procession in the northwestern city of Lakki Marwat.

Intelligence reports said that more attacks are planned by Sunnis for coming days in cities like Islamabad, Karachi and Quetta. Therefore, the government has decided to suspend mobile phone services for couple of hours in major cities.

Malik said, “The army is on standby. If any untoward incident occurs, we will call them, if need be.”

The Pakistani intelligence agency have said that Lashkar-e-Jhangvi have planned bombing as well as shooting attacking during Shi’ites.
