Heavy Fog forces flight to delay at IGI airport

The winter has started showing its show now; heavy fog surrounded the IGI Airport on Friday morning, which forced to diversion of four flights and delaying 75 others.

Talking to media, an official from Airport authorities said, “Two Jet Airway flights from Doha and Abu Dhabi and one Kingfisher flight from Dubai were diverted to Jaipur while one cargo flight from Chennai was diverted to Ahmedabad.”

In addition to this, around 10 flights were cancelled because of operational problems or poor weather conditions at the location. Meanwhile, fog started at around 2 am in the morning and leads to dip in the runway visibility.

It is said in reports that the visibility on the runway was less than 100 meter and flights could not depart in such situations as it requires at least 125 meters to 150 meters of visibility for various aircrafts.

The official said, “Due to this flights could not take off as per their schedule.”

As per the official, “The visibility improved, some flights took off but again operations were stalled when visibility dipped again.”

Moreover, the reports issued by the Met department states that the visibility is likely to improve after 11 am.

Yesterday, 266 flights were affected due to poor weather conditions and low visibility on the runway.
