On Monday, when the report was announced that there was attack on Ali Mohammad Sagar, the Jammu and Kashmir Rural Development and Panchayats, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, on Sunday night, it would take a U-turn on the issue of reopening liquor shops in the Kashmir Valley under Farooq Abdullah’s advocacy, the National Conference president and Union Minister for Non-Renewable Energy Sources.
A source of report said that the minister had gone to attend a family function.
While he was in the Nawab Bazaar area of old Srinagar, he was attacked and in this attack his bodyguard was killed, while three others, including a civilian, were injured. The minister had gone to attend a family function.
In all of this, the Pakistan-based Jamiatul Mujahideen claimed the responsibility for Sunday’s assault on Ali Mohammad Sagar.
The attack on Sagar was aimed at warning National Conference president and Union Minister for Non-Renewable Energy Sources Farooq Abdullah’s advocacy for reopening liquor shops in the Kashmir Valley, The Jamiatul Mujahideen said.
Jamil Ahmad, the spokesman of Jamiat, said, “The “Al Jabbar” squad of the outfit carried out the attack on Sagar last night with the aim of killing the minister.”
“The attack was carried out as a reaction to the shameful statement of Farooq Abdullah for reopening of cinema halls and liquor shops,” he added.
He warned of attacks in future on the National Conference and other “pro-India” parties in Kashmir.
Meanwhile the security has been going to be strict in Srinagar and police were kept on checking vehicles following the attack.
