Vodafone Tax Case: Supreme Court dismisses Govt’s review petition

Once again Supreme Court slapped government on Tuesday by dismissing its petition to review of Court’s verdict in the Vodafone-Hutch tax case.

Last month, tax authorities had filed review plea in Court to consider its judgment that had ruled in favour of Vodafone in January in tax case of $11 billion deal to buy Hutchison Whampoa Ltd’s Indian mobile business.

In its application, the government wrote that SC ruling had error in its findings of Vodafone’s offshore transaction, providing company a 67% stake in Hutch-Essar was bona fide structured FDI in India that the effect of legitimising transactions through the tax havens.

Further she said the clothes the Talwars wore on the night of Aarushi’s murder, only had her DNA and not Hemraj’s.

TRAI rolls-out consultation paper on 2G spectrum auction

Before taking any steps regarding the auction of 2G spectrum, it should analyze the views of stakeholders, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said on Wednesday in form of issuing consultation paper on auction scheme.

Announcing its decision, TRAI said, “On the basis of the comments received from the stakeholders on the pre-consultation paper and considering the international practices, the draft Consultation paper on “Auction of Spectrum” has been prepared.”

However on basis of Supreme Court’s order over judgment of cancellation of all 122 licences under 2008 allotment of 2G scam, TRAI had issued a pre-consultation paper on February 2012, on the issue of allocation of spectrum in 2G band in 22 Service Areas by auction.
