Vodafone, Airtel, Bharti and Idea gets DoT notices to stop 3G roaming deals

Today, the three most leading telecom company Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea will have to give their response to DoT telecom department, after receiving cancellation of 3G roaming notice on yesterday.

Time period that has given by Telecom Ministry to these three telecom firms is of 24 hours , and they must respond to its notice by 3pm on Today, either in its favour or not .

The actual fact is that Airtel, Vodafone and Idea are having 3G services on each other airwaves but not have 3G spectrum in that circles, because they could not succeed in getting spectrum in the auction held last year.

So in ruled out of license norms, the DOT will not be allowed service operators to offer services like this.

The telecom minister Kapil Sibal stated in clear cut point that such roaming agreements are in violation of license norms and the operators cannot be allowed to offer services like this.

At the time of decision to be made on Friday, Telecom secretary R Chandrashekhar announced, “The three companies has been issued notices to stop their intra-circle roaming deals for 3G services. The notices are issued today and the companies will have to respond to the notice by 3pm on Saturday.”

However the decision to cancel the 3G roaming services of the operators in violation of licenses has been taken by telecom regulator Trai, law ministry and DoT.

While asking Bharti Airtel about its step to respond, it said, “The department’s decision, months after the launch of 3G ICR roaming services, violates the principle of natural justice and is, to say the least, illegal.”
